During an inauguration day in office, Zohran Mamdani pledged to “transform” America's largest city, ushering in “a different age” and an ambitious commencement to his term.

A Historic Mayor

The young democratic socialist, who was a relatively obscure state assemblyman, now stands as the city's first Muslim mayor. He additionally marked a milestone by being the first to be sworn in using the Islamic holy text.
