Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Lift French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now won the prestigious cup on 14 different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the match featuring the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring early on.

Yet, the southern French side fired twice late to seize a surprise advantage. First, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial leveler in the dying seconds to force the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving crucial kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for PSG to seal a 4-1 shootout victory.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the last 13 seasons.
